Coming soon, a breath of spring in the mid-winter doldrums. The Midwestern Herb and Garden Show at the Times Square Mall in Mt. Vernon, IL, is your chance to get a head start on the season and shake off those gray-day blues. We will be returning for another year at this event, and look forward to seeing you there.

This is one we wait for every year, and though it’s not the biggest in the area, we think it’s one of the best. We will be downstairs at the foot of the escalator with gifts for that hard- to-buy-for person (you know the one I mean). We are busy stocking up so we will have just what you want.

This is our last show in the area this season, but not your last chance to get our handmade products before the holidays. All Ruth’s soaps, lotions, and beauty products are available every day at Town Square Market, at the corner of Jackson and Washington in Carbondale. Need a wine accessory? Take advantage of the weekend after Thanksgiving to avoid the malls, the crowds, and the congestion. Head for Shopping in the Hills, sponsored by Heartland Arts (Heartland Arts). We will be at Von Jacob Winery, along with a dozen or so other artists, Friday, Nov. 27 and Saturday, Nov. 28, from noon to 5 pm both days.

I will have several new accessories for you, including a just-finished counter-top rack capable of holding an even dozen bottles. I will also have the Wine Family, pictured above, with the original Wine Guy, and, in a family portrait, Wine Guy, Wine Gal, and Wine Baby, all working hard to show off your favorite wines.

AutumnFest at John A. Logan

This is one we look forward to every year. This is probably the biggest holiday show in the area, with a high level of craftsmanship from all the artists. We will be down in the cafeteria this year, where the crowds are not so thick. As always, we will have lots of great gifts for your friends and family. Stop by and say hello.

Murphysboro United Methodist Church Fall Craft Fair

Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. Not the biggest show in the area, but always a good one. Ruth has been making some new soaps for the occasion, as well as a batch of her carrot soap made with real carrot juice! John has several new wine racks, including one of his best pieces yet, a three-layer zig-zag made of walnut and maple. Also new, the Wine Family, a set of three angled holders in the shape of a man, a woman, and a baby. Lots of great gifts available.

Vulture Fest

Vulture Fest this weekend in Makanda. If you've never been to this funky show, now's your chance. Local crafters will be there along with some great music. Stop by and see us.

Southern Illinois Harvest Festival Wine and Art Fair at Genkota Winery

A first time event for us this weekend, we will be going to the Southern Illinois Harvest Festival Wine and Art Fair at Genkota Winery in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. It runs from 12 noon to 7:00 pm. Looks to be another great opportunity to sample Illinois wines and check out some of the area's finest artisans. Christmas is coming sooner than you think, and here's a chance to make a dent in your shopping list.
